Wood-fired ceramic kiln built in adobe and brick for Pluto (l’Horta Sud, Valencia). Conceived as an open infrastructure for material experimentation and collective work, the kiln enables the exploration of traditional wood-firing processes in ceramics. Its design also allows residual heat to be used for cooking, promoting a shared and integrated approach to energy use between ceramic practice and communal activities.
The kiln was constructed using clay deposits left by the DANA storm that affected l’Horta Sud, together with locally sourced materials such as rice straw. The project engages with this transformed landscape by integrating these sediments into the construction of a new infrastructure for Valencia’s ceramic scene.
The project was developed within Portal, a residency programme at Pluto that supports experimentation around design, production, and relationships with the surrounding environment, with the support of PICE – Acción Cultural Española.
